Welcome.

South City began in 2005 with a few people and a dream - a dream of what “church” could be. We can’t say we had it all together back then, or even now for that matter; but we’re continually imagining, learning, evolving, and growing into the church God had in mind for us to be - a church without walls.

We’re learning, for instance, to prefer people to programs, and to value worship-in-action more than worship-in-a-building. We’re learning not to get too busy “doing church” with each other that we don’t have the time or energy to actually “be the church” in our own neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces with people who need us most. We’re learning to see church as God’s means by which He can bless a city, rather than just a place we go to on a Sunday to get “fed”. Likewise, we’re learning that Jesus didn’t die to make us sanctified consumers, but so we could live for God and use our passions and giftings to bring life, beauty and healing to a desperately broken world.

As a people, we’re far from perfect. We’re a group of flawed men and women from diverse backgrounds and varied walks of life, with vastly different stories to tell. We’ve discovered, however, the overwhelmingly amazing grace of God – a God who lavishes his love on us although we don’t deserve it – a God who says that His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

And so we find ourselves, a community of ordinary people loved by an extraordinary God, deeply committed to journeying together in spite of our differences, and to following Christ in mission, here in our city and beyond.
